THE J. FRANKLYN BOURNE BAR ASSOCIATION OFFERS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN PRINCE GEORGE'S AND MONTGOMERY COUNTIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS BY DISPLAYING EXCELLENCE IN ORATION AND PERSUASION. .

CONTESTANTS ARE ASSIGNED A TOPIC RELEVANT TO THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY AND PRESENT THEIR ARGUMENTS BEFORE A PANEL OF JUDGES.

$3,250 IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS AND PRIZES ARE AWARDED.

SUMMER SCHOLARS PIPELINE PROGRAM

SINCE 2010, THE J. FRANKLYN BOURNE BAR ASSOCIATION HAS PARTNERED WITH THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION TO OPEN DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY FOR DESERVING SECOND YEAR LAW STUDENTS TO WORK AND OBTAIN VALUABLE EXPERIENCE AT OUTSTANDING LAW FIRMS.
INTERESTED APPLICANTS SHOULD SUBMIT A TIMELY APPLICATION TO THE J. FRANKLYN BOURNE BAR ASSOCIATION. THE ASSOCIATION WILL NOMINATE FIVE STUDENTS AND UP TO TWO ALTERNATES.

THE BOURNE LEGACY PROGRAM

THE J. FRANKLYN BOURNE BAR ASSOCIATION, THROUGH ITS BOURNE LEGACY PROGRAM, COLLABORATES WITH THE JUDICIAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE OF THE UNITED STATES JUDICIAL CONFERENCE AND 'JUST THE BEGINNING' – A PIPELINE ORGANIZATION'S SUMMER JUDICIAL INTERNSHIP DIVERSITY PROJECT (“JRC-JTB PROJECT”) TO ASSIST JUDGES IN PLACING HIGHLY COMPETENT MINORITY, UNDER-REPRESENTED AND/OR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED LAW STUDENTS IN THEIR CHAMBERS FOR SIX WEEKS OF UNPAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS.
THE PROGRAM'S GOALS ARE TO PROVIDE UP TO 100 UNDER-REPRESENTED LAW STUDENTS SUMMER JUDICIAL INTERNSHIPS, INCREASE THE NUMBER OF MINORITY CLERKS IN THE JUDICIARY, AND DIVERSIFY THE STATE AND FEDERAL JUDICIARY.
